I am thrilled to share some exciting news regarding my upcoming debut novel, The Janus Protocol. As many of you know, this project has been a labor of love, blending my four decades of experience across the Department of Veterans Affairs and DoD with a high-stakes, “insider” look at the intersection of cybersecurity and public service.
The Heart of the Story. The Janus Protocol explores the “two faces” of modern technology: the shield protecting our veterans and the spear that can be turned against them. The narrative pays tribute to the “invisible network of flesh and blood”—the civil servants, nurses, and technicians—who hold the mission together when the code fails.
New Developments. In this latest draft, I have deepened the tension for the team of defenders: Mike Sanders confronts a “ghost in the machine”—a dormant consciousness called CHARIOT. His wife, Peggy Sanders operates on the clinical front lines at the D.C. VA Medical Center, witnessing “systemic poisoning” where medical records display false vitals to hide a deeper subversion. Meanwhile, the crisis attracts Vic Radek, a predatory government contractor maneuvering through the political fallout to capture the agency’s infrastructure for his own profit.
Remembering the Mission: Grounding this thriller is a very real commitment to the veteran community. In the back matter of the book, I’ve added information about the Veterans Crisis Line (Dial 988, then press 1), because the mission to care for those who have “borne the battle” is always real.
What’s Next? I am moving into the final stages of editing, layout, and design.
Stay tuned for more “Behind the Code” updates and an official release date!
I Warned Them About the Buildings. The World Just Caught Up.
A year ago I warned that VA’s buildings were a cybersecurity blind spot. This week, US agencies confirmed the threat is real. So I wrote a novel.
