William C. James started federal service in 1974 as a GS-1 file clerk. Fifty years later he retired from the Senior Executive Service as Deputy CIO for DevOps at the Department of Veterans Affairs — the agency his debut thriller is set inside. Along the way he served as an Air Force SES at the Pentagon and as J6/CIO Technical Director at USTRANSCOM.
He holds a 1998 patent for controlling remote equipment over the internet, years before anyone called it the Internet of Things. In 1997, Federal Computer Week named him a Fed 100 honoree. He started his career writing COBOL, FORTRAN, and assembly language. He’s still writing.
